Andrea Mastrovito (born in Bergamo in 1978, lives and works in New York) is an Italian multimedia artist well-known for his ability to define drawing through different medias, from sheet to installation to animated feature films, all enhanced with storytelling skills that allow him to engage each and every form of expression.

Graduated in 2001 at Academy of Fine Arts G. Carrara in Bergamo, from the mid 2000’s Mastrovito has had exhibitions in museums and Biennals all over the world. His most recognized works are The Island of Dr. Mastrovito (2010-2012), created with thousands of cut-up books, Gv 19,30 (2014), three-dimensional stained glass windows for the Church of San Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo, and his latest animated feature films, NYsferatu (2017) and I am not legend (2020).

In 2025 he has been commissioned to create the Agnus Dei for Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, a work that, once installed, will mark the end of the Basilica's main construction site after 140 years.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded Mastrovito the New York Prize in 2007 and the Moroso Prize in 2012. In 2019 Mastrovito won the 6th edition of the Italian Council. In 2011, he became the first artist to have a solo show at Museo del Novecento in Milan. His works have also been included in many institutional exhibitions all across Europe and the United States, such as those at MAXXI National Museum of the 21st century and Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome; Pecci, Prato; MART, Rovereto; Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester; B.P.S. 22, Charleroi, Belgium; M.A.D., New York, Belvedere21 in Wien and the 15th Lyon Biennial.

Recently selected solo exhibitions include Res Gestae, Palazzo Braschi, Rome (2024), Yo Lo Vi, Proa21, Buenos Aires (2022), Strange Days, Laznia Center, Gdansk (2021); Io non sono leggenda, Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Fabroni, Pistoia (2020); Le monde est une invention sans futur, Fondation Bullukian, Lyon (2019); Very Bad Things, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome (2019); Symphonie eines Jahrhunderts, Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche, Osnabruck (2018).

He has also participated in several international exhibitions including: Festival Images Vevey, Biennale des arts visuels, Vevey 2020; 15th Biennale de Lyon 2019; 6th Biennale d’Anglet 2016; Le Printemps de Septembre, Toulouse 2012; 15th Quadriennale di Roma 2008. Since 2014 he has made a series of permanent public interventions in Italy, France, Belgium and the United States.

He has held public talks at Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, Naba, Accademia di Brera, Museo Pecci and Spazio Oberdan in Milan, Palazzo Forti in Verona, American Academy in Rome, Museum Nitsch in Naples, Pavillon Blanc in Colomiers, Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, ISCP and Italian Academy at Columbia University in New York.

In 2021 he founded in Bergamo, together with partners Marcassoli and Carrera, The Drawing Hall, the first space entirely dedicated to Italian contemporary drawing, of which he is artistic director.
